Nutrition Counselling

Health messages about nutrition can be very confusing and contradictory. A Registered Dietitian can help you to understand how food affects your body and health. Dietitians develop individualized nutrition plans to help you optimize your health through diet, prevent or manage disease through nutrition interventions, and reach your health and wellness goals.

Some of the common topics that a dietitian can provide counselling for include:
  • Weight management
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes and prediabetes
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding and infant nutrition
  • Gastrointestinal and digestive issues, e.g Crohn’s, IBS, constipation
  • Enhance sports performance
  • Living with food allergies, including Celiac disease
  • Dietary restrictions such as vegetarian and vegan diets
  • Healthy eating on a budget
  • General healthy eating help, including meal planning and grocery shopping tips
  • Many more!

What is a Registered Dietitian?

Registered Dietitians are regulated health professionals with specialized training in nutrition and health sciences. Only individuals who have completed an accredited undergraduate degree, comprehensive internship program, and passed a national regulatory exam may use the term “Registered Dietitian” or “RD”. Dietitians are accountable to a college which sets professional standards for practice and ethics, and are committed to providing evidence-based nutrition counseling and education.

Your insurance may cover dietitian services.

Private dietitian services are not covered by OHIP. However, many extended health care plans do cover dietitian services. Please check with your employer or health insurance plan regarding your coverage. Dietitian fees are tax deductible as an eligible medical expense. Individual nutrition counselling fees are HST exempt.
